Sophia Shanko | CEO & Founder, ShanX Medtech

As technology changes the face of healthcare, Sophia is enthusiastic about her contribution to innovative medical care. In particular, she is interested in the decentralization of diagnostic tests to the point of care. In this way, fast, evidence-based and personalized healthcare can be achieved. To ensure this, Sophia founded ShanX Medtech BV, a startup developing antibiotic efficiency testing devices. Helping doctors make an evidence based and personalized antibiotic treatment choices is an important step to improve patient care. She has a BSc and MSc in Electrical Engineering and she recently finished her PhD in diagnostic devices (Mechanical Engineering).

Prescilla Jeurink | University teacher & Future Food Utrecht Ambassador

As a teacher and ambassador, Prescilla aims to make more and more people enthusiastic about the resilience of the human body. She gets very energized by the progress made in biomedical sciences in case our bodies cannot rely on that resilience. Still she wants to sparkle the notion that prevention should be a dominant part of our health care as healthy nutrition, exercise and a healthy living environment can reduce the need for or enhance the effectiveness of pharmaceutical solutions. She believes that translating fundamental science into applied science with multiple disciplines is what will make a difference in the long run. However, that means we do not only need to educate specialists, but also generalists that speak the different disciplinary languages. How difficult it is to get a relatively simple message across in the intended way to different target groups can daily be observed in (social) media.
