Carin studied Pharmacy at the University of Groningen and currently works as a patient advocate at the Dutch Federation of Cancerpatientsorganizations (NFK). She mainly focusses on the topics of innovative treatments and moleculair diagnostics as well as early diagnosis in oncology. From the patient's perspective, she works together with the various stakeholders to optimize the availability of molecular diagnostics in the Netherlands to ensure equal access for every patient to the best possible (molecular) diagnostics and subsequent treatment.

Cancer treatments are definitely transforming. Developments in the care for patients with cancer are moving incredibly fast and are absolutely promising. Better (molecular) diagnostics and increased treatment options ensure that relevant chances in survival, with a better quality of life, for more and more cancers is getting feasible. What is the patient perspective in this fast-changing environment; on equal access to the best diagnostics and treatment for patients, and a learning healthcare system that can help to make cancer drugs available to a broader group of patients, using not only the results of registration studies, but also data collected over the entire cancer treatment period and the life cycle of the products.
