Evert F. Stamhuis (LLM, PhD) holds a chair for Law and Innovation at Erasmus School of Law (Rotterdam NL). He is Academic Director of the LLM program “Law & Technology, Governance, AI & Legal Tech” and Senior Fellow of the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on Digital Governance. Within the strategic Convergence Initiative – a partnership of Delft University of Technology, Erasmus University Rotterdam and Erasmus Medical Centre – he is the Academic Lead for Erasmus University for AI, Data and Digitalization. In that capacity he intiates, facilitates and guides a.o. the development of the Erasmian Language Model ELM, a really open source dedicated LLM for higher education students.
He researches the interaction between law, governance and new digital technologies, with a special focus on the public domain, health care and regulated markets. He contributes to international consortia that study a diversity of use cases and experimentation with AI. Stamhuis is part of the leadership of the ELSA Lab AI-MAPS on AI deployment for promoting public safety and of the Convergence Centre for Responsible AI in Health Care.
