Michiel Oderwald | Senior Business Developer Medical Devices, TNO

Already during his study Michiel Oderwald developed a passion for innovative Medical Devices. He graduated on muscle-like actuators for piano playing fingers at TUDelft’s faculty of mechanical engineering. At TNO he focused on the development of high-tech robotic systems for healthcare such as the Preceyes eye surgery robot, which was later acquired by Carl Zeiss Meditec in 2022. A failed attempt to startup a rehabilitation robotics company triggered his interest in the business development side of innovative medical devices.TNO’s dedicated medical devices team, with highly skilled scientists on the field of Tissue Optics Modeling, Wearable Devices, Retinal Imaging, Integrated Photonics and Ultrasound Imaging supports industrial parties in the development of their innovative medical devices. As a business developer Michiel is responsible for setting up new collaborations in this field. As many disruptive innovations in the field of medical devices are realized by startups, TNO has dedicated support strategies for SME’s within this field.TNO also initiates new innovations in the field of medical devices for which the best way to create societal and economic impact is explored. In some cases this results in the founding of a start-up company, such as Delta Life Science. Michiel will present the new photonic medical devices that TNO is currently developing.

TNO

The Dutch health care sector is facing major challenges which partly can be addressed by technological innovations that relieve work pressure to HCP’s. TNO is working on a number of such innovations together with stakeholders in the health care ecosystem. The unique presence of a broad range of technological and scientific disciplines and applications domains within TNO represents a wealth of possibilities to our customers and partners. Moreover, TNO is a qualified orchestrator of innovation-driven consortia that helps individual companies bringing their solutions to the market. In the years to come, TNO will further strengthen its focus and dedication to the health care sector with the ambition to improve public health, reduce labour pressure and costs, thereby safeguarding its accessibility.
