Wynand Alkema is professor of Data Science for Life Science & Health at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences and CSO of TenWise BV. He obtained his PhD in biochemistry at the University of Groningen and then moved to the field of bioinformatics, first as a post-doc at the Karolinska Institute and then at Organon, Schering-Plough, Merck. He next worked several years at NIZO Food Research as principal scientist data analytics and at the Radboud UMC where he started the bioinformatics technology centre.His research at the Hanze University focusses on the development of methods for integration of large scale text mining data with high dimensional biological data. Within TenWise BV, such methods are applied in projects for food and pharma companies to assist in biomarker identification, new product development and drug repositioning.
