Cor Veenman | Senior Scientist Data Science, TNO

Dr. Cor Veenman received the MSc degree in computer science/artificial intelligence from the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and his PhD from the Delft University of Technology in Delft. Between 2004-2010 he has been assistant professor in data mining at the Delft University of Technology and the University of Amsterdam. From 2005, he worked as forensic scientist in forensic data mining research and applications at the Netherlands Forensic Institute, The Hague. Since 2015 he is senior researcher responsible AI at the University Leiden and since 2017, he is also senior scientist responsible AI at the data science department of TNO, The Hague. At TNO Veenman is lead scientist of the TNO wide AI program Appl.AI, where he coordinates research projects devoted to trustworthy and human centric decision support systems for various domains. Veenman is lead scientist and initiator of the AI4Oversight lab which is a collaboration between the University Leiden, University Utrecht, TNO and four inspectorates, where PhD students research trustworthy AI specifically for challenges in inspection tasks.  His research interest is in the development of fair, explainable and transparent AI methods for impactful domains.

Veenman published data mining, computer vision and AI research in leading conferences and journals, among others: IEEE Transactions on Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, Artificial Intelligence, and the International Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition.
