Mark H.H. Kramer is Professor of Medicine and retired after almost 8 years as member of the executive board Amsterdam University Medical Center (Amsterdam UMC) in December 2023. He was responsible for patient care, quality and patient safety and strategic alliances. He was also chair of ROAZ Noord-Holland/Flevoland and presided the ‘Landelijk Netwerk Acute Zorg (LNAZ)’ as successor of Ernst Kuipers. He finished his medical education ‘cum laude’ at the University of Leiden. He later completed his Internal medicine training and Hematology fellowship in Curacao (Dutch Antilles) and Leiden University Medical Center. He is past-president of the Netherlands Society of Internal Medicine. His research focused on clinical aspects of acute internal medicine and on diabetes mellitus. He was actively involved in development and promotion of emergency medicine in the Netherlands. He was knighted by H.M. Queen Beatrix as ‘Officier in de Orde van Oranje-Nassau’ in 2013. He is a member of numerous professional organizations and elected as an honorable fellow of the American College of Physicians, and a fellow of the Royal Colleges of Physicians in London and Edinburgh. He serves in the Board of Governors of numerous organizations. Since the beginning of this year, he is the first independent chairman of the Vereniging Innovatieve Geneesmiddelen.
