Tim Van den Bulcke is Head of Bioinformatics at Galapagos (www.glpg.com). From a passion for innovation and novel technologies, he gained extensive experience at the intersection of data sciences and life sciences. A key driver throughout his career is to have a measurable impact on patient lives, combined with creating business value. During his career in the pharmaceutical industry and academic research, he switched between various roles needed to realize this vision, ranging from bioinformatics scientist and data scientist to entrepreneurial and managerial roles. He co-founded biomina (www.biomina.be) an interdisciplinary research center for biomedical informatics at the Antwerp University Hospital (UZA), combined with a professorship at UAntwerpen. As part of the Data Sciences team in Janssen Pharmaceuticals, he lead various data sciences projects from supply chain management and real world evidence analytics to patient recruitment for clinical trials.
