After a couple of days following the end of the BioBusiness Winter School, I’m particularly grateful for the clarity it brought to the different roles shaping the Life Sciences ecosystem.From Venture Capital to Technology Transfer, Business Development, and early-stage biotech strategy, the discussions highlighted how product development, intellectual property, finance, and business models translate scientific ideas into sustainable companies. For someone coming from an academic background and exploring a transition toward more strategic, decision-oriented roles, these insights were especially valuable. 

For someone coming from an academia-only background, it was a very interesting and interactive week in which I learned a lot and discussed in depth about the business side of the Life Sciences. Although I do not yet know what next career step I would like to take, the summer school really broadened my horizon and made me aware of the wide range of opportunities that lie outside of academia.

Eye-opening experience for all the people that are confused about what other options are there after the PhD outside of academia and applied scientific roles.

This program was truly inspirational, offering a deep dive into the world of life sciences from multiple perspectives. I learned about business models in life sciences, entrepreneurship, finance, patents, product development, and the transition from academia to industry. Meeting experts from the BioBusiness field was a game-changer. Not only I expanded my network, but I also broadened my knowledge in this field. A special highlight was applying what we learned on pitching our ideas and on Harvard-style business cases, which provided hands-on and practical experience.

Throughout the week, I gained valuable insights into various aspects of the life sciences business, from product development and intellectual properties to strategic financial planning and business development. Especially enjoyed the mini-hackathon and Harvard Business Case experience!
I am grateful to the organizers for creating such an enriching experience, the invited speakers for sharing their knowledge and experiences, and fellow participants for creating a fun learning environment.

An incredible week where I learned more about life science companies spanning consulting, business, finance and much more.It was an invaluable opportunity to network with leading CEOs and professional in the Netherlands and engage with talented, like-minded peers. The interactive sessions and knowledge exchange were truly inspiring! A fantastic opportunity to explore, learn, and take the first steps towards an exciting future in the life sciences sector!

What comes next? If you do not know what to do after your PhD or MSc in Life Science and are curious about options outside academia then I highly recommend the #BioBusinessSummerSchool by Hyphen Projects. I attended the amazing program learning about enterpreneurship, financing, business models/strategies and listened to very inspiring speakers working as business developer, consultant, scientist, analyst at venture captials, patent attorney, in marketing, or as CDOs, CFOs, and CEOs

Attending the BioBusiness Winter School was an eye-opening experience that wiped out my initial scepticism. The BCF team cooked an excellent course. The ingredients: tons of inspiring talks by speakers who are leaders and hands-on experts in Bio/Life science industry; an overview of the career paths for a professional in the life sciences and the skills wanted for switching to Industry from Academia; a bunch of concepts in business, intellectual property and entrepreneurship; a pinch of networking sessions every here and there. I've got energized from this experience, gained professional awareness, and grew my professional network on LinkedIn. Recommended!
