Geert Jan Groeneveld is Chief Executive Officer of the Centre for Human Drug Research (CHDR) in Leiden, the Netherlands, and Professor of Clinical Neuropharmacology at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC). He also practices as a neurologist at the LUMC, specialising in patients with neurological causes of chronic pain.
He trained in neurology at the University Medical Center Utrecht, where he obtained his PhD on novel pharmacotherapeutic strategies for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. His career includes experience in industry at Genzyme, where he contributed to gene therapy programmes for Parkinson’s disease and the registration of enzyme replacement therapy for late-onset Pompe disease. He later served as Research Director at CHDR, leading research in neurology and pain.
Professor Groeneveld’s work focuses on early-phase clinical drug development for neurological disorders and pain. He has authored over 150 peer-reviewed publications, is actively involved in PhD training, and serves as a senior editor on the editorial board of BJCP.
