Presentation: From ‘Sectorbeeld 2020’ to an Updated National Agenda for Pharmaceutical Sciences
Pharmaceutical Sciences is a multidisciplinary field that integrates the fundamental beta sciences to advance the discovery, development, and optimal use of medicines. Since the publication of the first sector vision presented in the ‘Sectorbeeld 2020’, the field has evolved rapidly, driven by breakthroughs in mRNA technologies, cell and gene therapies, artificial intelligence, and advanced predictive models. At the same time, national initiatives have strengthened collaboration between Dutch universities in both research and education.
This presentation will provide an overview of the updated sector vision for Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Netherlands, developed by the Council for Pharmaceutical Sciences. It will highlight the current state of the discipline, recent achievements, and the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. Attention will be given to strengthening national collaboration, maintaining excellence in research and education, embracing emerging technologies, and ensuring sufficient capacity to meet growing societal and educational demands. The new sector vision outlines a shared agenda to further reinforce the Dutch pharmaceutical sciences ecosystem and maximize its scientific and societal impact.
