My laboratory has expertise in lipoprotein and lipid metabolism in relation to cardiovascular and neurodegenerative diseases, as well as eye diseases. Besides basic and translational research we work on diagnostics, treatment and investigation of complicated dyslipidemias. For this reason we established a “Lipid Expertise Center” (https://www.erasmusmc.nl/nl-nl/patientenzorg/centra/lipiden-expertise-centrum). Part of the research focusses on the potential of liver X receptor (LXR)-activating seaweed-derived sterols in the battle against the development of Alzheimer’s disease.
