Petra Hoogland

Pharmacist Contract Strategy, Mosadex Services

Petra Hoogland works as Pharmacist Contract Strategy at Mosadex Services. In this role, she is closely involved in innovations and the contracting of these at the more than 500 affiliated Service Apotheken. She began working for Service Apotheek in 2012 and is a co-founder of the TOP programme run by Mosadex’s Het Apotheekloket, which is aimed at young pharmacists during their specialisation phase for community pharmacy. Prior to her career in community pharmacy, Petra Hoogland worked for several years at the Academic Medical Centre (AMC) in Amsterdam. After completing her studies, she moved to London, where she worked at what was then Europe’s largest private hospital: The Wellington Hospital. In London, she spent six years working as a clinical pharmacist at the patient’s bedside.

Education and research

Petra Hoogland studied pharmacy at the University of Groningen (1996–2004) and, whilst completing her degree, conducted research into the monoclonal antibody trastuzumab within the Department of Nuclear Medicine.

Since graduating, science has remained important to her and she has contributed to various studies. In particular, she has co-initiated many studies for Service Apotheek and has regularly co-authored publications with them. She is also an active member of various research consortia, such as MAKE-IT, P4CARE and COHESION.

Petra Hoogland is frequently involved in various ZonMW research grant applications, typically focusing on how such research ultimately contributes to innovations within primary care pharmacy.

Petra Hoogland has delivered numerous training courses for community pharmacists, focusing on the following key areas: medication reviews, renal function assessments in community pharmacies, pharmacogenetics, and digital and hybrid pharmacy care.

Additional roles

In addition to her role at Mosadex Services, she has served as a board member of the Medicines Bulletin Foundation (Ge-Bu) for approximately half a day per month since 2021 and is committed to ensuring the continued existence of the journal, the existence of which has been a concern for a long time. Drs. Hoogland believes it is important that the positioning of medicines is shaped in a multidisciplinary manner – that is, by both doctors and pharmacists – and therefore considers the Ge-Bu to be of great importance.
