Imran Avci | Associate Professor at the Department of Physics and Astronomy, VU Amsterdam & Researcher of Biotech Booster's Project TRITON

B. Imran Avci received her B.S. degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Bilkent University, Turkey, in 2006, specializing in integrated photonics and biomedical imaging. She obtained her Ph.D. in 2012 from the Integrated Optical Microsystems Group at the University of Twente, The Netherlands, where she developed on-chip optical coherence tomography (OCT) systems. From 2013 to 2015, she was a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Yun’s laboratory at Harvard Medical School, working on OCT vibrography for assessing corneal biomechanics. In 2015, she was awarded an NWO VENI grant and continued her research at the Academic Medical Center in Amsterdam, followed by a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship in 2016. She is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at VU Amsterdam. Her group pioneers multimodal biophotonics, creating photonic instruments that sense, image, and stimulate biological systems to reveal new biomarkers and enable novel therapies.

TRITON

We are developing disposable, low-cost optical biosensors for rapid, label-free detection of lung cancer biomarkers, enabling earlier and more accessible diagnosis. During the Biotech Booster program, we will validate the technology on patient blood samples and develop a robust market and business model, with future potential to expand to other diseases.
