AI in Life Sciences: From Innovation to Responsible Implementation
Artificial intelligence is rapidly becoming part of the life sciences ecosystem. From clinical research and drug development to patient engagement, recruitment, medical information and internal business processes, AI can create significant opportunities for efficiency and innovation. At the same time, its use can introduce complex questions around personal and health data, transparency, accountability, human oversight and regulatory compliance.
For life sciences organisations, the challenge is therefore no longer simply whether AI can be used, but how it can be introduced responsibly and governed effectively in practice.
In this interactive workshop, DPO Consultancy will explore the intersection between AI, privacy and life sciences through practical scenarios and discussion. Participants will consider where AI-related risks may arise across the AI lifecycle, what questions organisations should ask before implementing an AI solution, and how privacy and responsible AI governance can be integrated into existing processes rather than treated as a final compliance check.
The session will connect practical examples with the evolving European regulatory landscape, including the GDPR and EU AI Act, while considering the particular sensitivities associated with health and life sciences data.
What participants wil take away
Participants will leave the session with a practical understanding of:
• where AI is already creating opportunities and risks within life sciences organisations;
• the key privacy and AI-governance questions to ask before adopting or deploying an AI solution;
• how concepts such as purpose limitation, data minimisation, transparency, human oversight and accountability translate into AI projects;
• how GDPR and AI Act considerations can interact in practice; and
• practical steps organisations can take to move from ad hoc AI use towards responsible AI governance.
The workshop will combine a short expert introduction with practical scenarios and audience participation. Rather than focusing exclusively on legal requirements, participants will be invited to work through realistic life sciences AI use cases and identify the privacy, governance and implementation considerations that should be addressed.
The session will conclude with practical governance takeaways that participants can bring back to their own organisations.
