As a teacher and ambassador, Prescilla aims to make more and more people enthusiastic about the resilience of the human body. She gets very energized by the progress made in biomedical sciences in case our bodies cannot rely on that resilience. Still she wants to sparkle the notion that prevention should be a dominant part of our health care as healthy nutrition, exercise and a healthy living environment can reduce the need for or enhance the effectiveness of pharmaceutical solutions.
She believes that translating fundamental science into applied science with multiple disciplines is what will make a difference in the long run. However, that means we do not only need to educate specialists, but also generalists that speak the different disciplinary languages. How difficult it is to get a relatively simple message across in the intended way to different target groups can daily be observed in (social) media.
Alex Cloherty is an award-winning science communicator, a PhD candidate, and an avid cyclist. Her doctoral research focuses on the role of autophagy, the 'recycling system' of the cell, during viral infections like HIV-1 and Dengue virus. Alongside her PhD, Alex is the writer and creator of "Microbial Mondays", a blog where she regularly posts articles and videos with the aim of improving public understanding of microbiology. Aside from science, Alex is also passionate about low-waste living, feminism, and playing ukulele.
Nazma Ilahibaks obtained her BSc in Pharmaceutical Sciences at VU University, Amsterdam. In 2019, she graduated cum laude with Honours from the Young Innovators program from her Master's degree in Drug Innovation at Utrecht University.
During her Master's, she developed a biofabrication method to produce cell-derived nanovesicles. She got a PhD offer financed by a public-private partnership grant from the Dutch Heart Foundation. Her doctoral research specializes in the therapeutic development of nanomedicine combined with CRISPR/Cas9 gene therapy to prevent adverse cardiac events in high-risk patients. Her entrepreneurial spirit is driven to improve humanity's quality of life through biomedical innovation. Besides science, she highly enjoys reading, traveling, organizing events, and business development.
