About Carmen van Vilsteren | Chair, Topsector Life Sciences & Health
Carmen van Vilsteren is Chair of the Life Sciences & Health Top Sector and Director Health of Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e). She is the former Chair of the Board of the BeNe CLC of EIT Health . She has been active in both startups and multinationals (Philips) in MedTech and later on as co-founder and CEO of Microsure, a TU/e spinoff in the field of microsurgical robots. She received her degree with honors from Delft University of TechnologyIn her current role as Director Health of TU/e, she combines her knowledge of establishing innovation programmes and public-private partnerships with scientific research.Within this role she is responsible for the Eindhoven MedTech Innovation Center (e/MTIC). e/MTIC is a research collaboration between the Catharina Hospital, the Maxima Medical Center, Kempenhaeghe, TU/e and Philips in the domains cardiovascular, perinatal and sleep medicine. The goal is to create and expand an ecosystem that strongly increases the speed of high-tech health innovation, maximizing value for patients.
The Dutch Life Sciences & Health (LSH) sector is one of ten “top sectors” in the Netherlands and part of the Dutch cabinet’s Mission-driven Top Sectors and Innovation Policy. The top sectors are designated by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy and are selected on their ability to contribute substantially to global societal challenges. The Top Sector works together with public and private parties to support the societal theme Health & Care of the Dutch cabinet’s Mission-driven Top Sectors and Innovation Policy. The coalition does this on the basis of the five Health & Care missions, formulated by the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport.
