Transitioning from academia to industry

At times, it can feel like there's a clear divide between academia and industry that's difficult to overcome. From an academic perspective, industry may seem like a complex landscape with unclear job titles and job descriptions. In this presentation, I'll share my personal experience of transitioning from academia to industry and offer some helpful tips and pitfalls to avoid. By the end, I'll also discuss my current position as a Strategic Business Developer at Catalyze.

Paris Asif is a Strategic Business Developer in the Life Sciences and Health sector at Catalyze. After completing her PhD in colorectal cancer at AmsterdamUMC, she made the transition from academia to industry. During her multidisciplinary studies, she took several business and consultancy courses, including the Biobusiness Summer School. After finishing her PhD she started her own creative business and then decided to apply her academic background to a job in industry. Paris believes that an academic mindset can help you succeed beyond expectations in the industrial setting.
