Mieneke te Hennepe | Curator Rijksmuseum Boerhaave & Professor Medical History, Leiden University Medical Center
Mieneke te Hennepe is curator of medical collections at Rijksmuseum Boerhaave, the award winning Dutch National Museum for the History of Science and Medicine. She is the lead curator of the exhibition Unseen, which explores gender bias in medicine through historical and contemporary perspectives. With a background in medical history and a strong interest in museum ethics and inclusive storytelling, Mieneke developed Unseen to highlight overlooked narratives in healthcare and biomedical science. In addition to her curatorial role, Mieneke is a Professor by special appointment in Medical History at Leiden University Medical Center. She holds Master’s degrees in Medical Biology and Sociology of Science (University of Amsterdam), and received a Research Prize from the Praemium Erasmianum Foundation for her PhD dissertation Depicting Skin: Visual Culture in Nineteenth-Century Medicine. She values the exchange between academia, social history, patient perspectives and the museum, drawing on her teaching experience with medical students to position the museum as a vital public platform for dialogue and reflection on healthcare in society.
