Anne Metje van Genderen
Assistant Professor, Utrecht University
Anne Metje van Genderen earned a bachelor degree in pharmaceutical sciences and master degree in drug innovation from Utrecht University. In 2023 she obtained her PhD at Utrecht University entitled “Engineering the (vascularized) proximal tubule, a guide towards functionality”. During her PhD, she received the Materials Driven Regeneration Young Talent Incentive grant to perform 5 months of research at Harvard Medical School. Her postdoc within the Virtual Human Platform for Safety Assessment (VHP4Safety) consortium focused on studying drug-induced nephrotoxicity in induced pluripotent stem cell derived kidney organoids. Since March 2024, Anne Metje holds the position of assistant professor at the Div. of Pharmacology (Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences) at Utrecht University. Her research focuses on mimicking the kidney in vitro to (1) study disease and work towards innovative therapies and (2) further explore how (bio)materials can guide kidney maturation towards building tissue which can (partially) replace kidney function.
