Audrey Derobertmasure, PharmD, PhD, is a clinical pharmacist and pharmacologist at Paris Cité University and the European Georges-Pompidou Hospital in Paris, France.
Her research lies at the interface of clinical pharmacology and space medicine, with a particular focus on pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, microsampling, therapeutic drug monitoring and precision pharmacology. During her PhD, she investigated innovative approaches to support pharmacological countermeasures for future long-duration and deep-space missions, conducting research during parabolic flights and in Mars-analogue environments.
She is actively involved in European and international initiatives aimed at advancing space pharmacology and pharmacy. She co-leads the Aerospace Pharmacy and Pharmacology Group (APPG) within the International Society for Gravitational Physiology (ISGP) and contributes to collaborative European initiatives seeking to strengthen research and innovation in space health.
Her work aims to bridge clinical pharmacology, pharmaceutical sciences and space medicine to support safer and more individualized pharmacotherapy in space, while exploring how innovations developed for extreme environments may contribute to healthcare on Earth.
Presentation: Pharmacology Beyond Earth: From Spaceflight Challenges to Pharmaceutical Innovation
Human space exploration challenges many of the assumptions on which modern pharmacotherapy is based. Spaceflight-induced physiological changes may influence drug pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, while long-duration missions introduce additional constraints related to medication stability, safety, monitoring and individualized treatment. Yet, our understanding of how medicines behave in space remains limited.
This keynote will explore how these challenges are driving new approaches to clinical pharmacology, including microsampling, therapeutic drug monitoring and precision pharmacotherapy, illustrated by research conducted during parabolic flights and in space-analogue environments.
Beyond supporting astronaut health, space is also emerging as a unique environment for pharmaceutical innovation, opening new opportunities in disease modelling, drug discovery, AI-supported pharmacology and biomanufacturing. Emerging European and international collaborative networks are helping to connect expertise across pharmacology, pharmacy, space medicine, academia and industry to structure this rapidly evolving field.
Ultimately, preparing pharmacology for exploration beyond Earth may also help us rethink how medicines are developed, monitored and personalized on Earth.
