Bart Dekkers

Bart Dekkers, PharmD, PhD, studied Pharmacy at the University of Groningen, where he developed a strong foundation in pharmaceutical sciences. After obtaining his PharmD, he pursued a PhD focused on the role of extracellular matrix proteins in airway remodelling in asthma. Following his doctoral studies, Bart transitioned to the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG), where he underwent specialized training as a hospital pharmacist and clinical pharmacologist. This dual expertise has allowed him to bridge the gap between pharmaceutical innovation and clinical application, ensuring that cutting-edge treatments are safely and effectively implemented in patient care.
Currently, Bart works as a hospital pharmacist at UMCG, where he has developed a specialization in quality assurance for a wide range of pharmaceutical products, including biotechnology-derived medicines and Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs). Beyond his clinical responsibilities, Bart is actively engaged in scientific research and collaborative projects. He has played a crucial role in the development and production of fluorescently labelled antibodies, gene therapy products, and tissue-engineered medical solutions. His research efforts span both investigator-initiated studies and partnerships with emerging biotech start-ups, fostering innovation in personalized medicine and advanced therapeutics.
Bart’s enthusiasm for pharmaceutical advancements and translational research makes him a valued contributor in his field. His work not only enhances patient outcomes but also drives forward the development of next-generation medical treatments.
