Renger Witkamp (1959) is full professor of Nutritional Biology at Wageningen University (the Netherlands) since 2006. He studied biology and pharmaceutical sciences and holds a PhD in pharmacology from Utrecht University. Prior to his tenure at Wageningen University, he occupied various scientific and managerial positions at Utrecht University and the Netherlands' Organization for Applied Scientific Research (TNO).
At Wageningen University, he leads a group dedicated to studying and teaching the mechanisms underlying the role of nutrition and other lifestyle factors on physiological resilience and the body's adaptive responses to aging, chronic diseases, and recovery. Within this theme, the interaction between nutrition and medication is also addressed, with the group studying both the clinical applications and interactions between these domains. Regarding the interactions between nutrition and medication, the focus is primarily on the potential consequences of medication on nutritional status and the risk of malnutrition.
In addition to his research and teaching responsibilities, he serves as a member of the Academic Board of Wageningen University and the "Voeding Leeft" foundation, an organization focused on implementing lifestyle programs. Furthermore, he holds positions as a board member of the European Nutrition Leadership Platform (ENLP), the Nutrition & Healthcare Alliance, and the Institute for Medicinal Cannabis Netherlands.
