Robert Sauerwein

Professor at Faculty of Medical Sciences, Radboudumc

Trained as medical specialist in clinical microbiology and immunology, I have a vested interest in translational research and clinical development of Plasmodium falciparum malaria vaccines. My entire research career that includes lab, clinical as well as field experience in Africa, has been focused on better understanding of malaria transmission and parasite/host interactions. For this purpose we have several types of vaccines in clinical development, improved the Controlled Human Malaria Infection (CHMI) model and several field sites in endemic countries.

Presentation: InFECT-NL for Accelerated Clinical Development of Medicines for Infectious Diseases

The challenges and threats posed by infectious diseases have a significant and lasting impact on Dutch healthcare. However, the necessary scientific, economic, and structural efforts have long been insufficiently recognized. The InFECT-NL foundation aims to operate as a national hub for the development of affordable and accessible new drugs and vaccines. InFECT-NL seeks to accelerate clinical product development by bringing together national knowledge centers and commercial parties, and by providing access to a clinical trial facility that includes Controlled Human Infections and is managed by InFECTA BV.
