Dr. Tessel Rigter is a Principal Investigator at the section of Community Genetics, dept. Human Genetics of the Amsterdam UMC. Her research evolves around relevant societal and policy questions for responsible innovation in the field of genetics, including implementation of pharmacogenomics. She aims to create impact by building bridges, stimulating knowledge exchange, and defining strategies for optimization and change in the field of Public Health Genomics. She is also affiliated to the dept. of Public Health Genomics and Screening of the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM), program leader of the Personalized Medicine program from the Amsterdam Public Health (APH) research institute, board member of the Dutch Association for Community Genetics and Public Health Genomics (NACGG) and Dutch Society of Human Genetics (NVHG), and coordinator of the Minor Biomedical Topics in Healthcare at the VU University.
Presentation: Implementation of genetic screening and personalized medicine applications
Implementation of genetic screening requires early and detailed planning, especially when organized as a national screening program and to healthy populations. Evaluation frameworks can aid in balancing positive impact and potential negative consequences, aiming to maximize clinical utility. Key success factors can be defined, including stakeholder involvement and clear definition of roles and responsibilities. Studies on implementation of preemptive pharmacogenomics in different settings, including the MijnDNAmedicatiepas and P4CARE study, will be used as examples to show challenges and lessons learned.
