Translational Toxicology: From Mechanistic Models to Clinical Safety

9 October 2025 | 11:20 - 12:35

There is a fine line between pharmacology and toxicology: the ongoing search for the balance between therapeutic and adverse effects. The field of translational toxicology integrates cutting-edge molecular methodologies and models to predict and mitigate the toxic effects of drugs in humans. In depth mechanistic knowledge of the threshold between adaptive and adverse pathways will allow confident development of therapeutic agents and protection of human health.

This session will explore various translational approaches to link the bench results in toxicology to the clinical field, starting from a in depth reflection of the pharmacology and toxicology of cellular stress responses, followed by recent advancements in organoid models development for the evaluation of tumorigenic effect of substances, finally sharing insights dual pathway inhibition in lung cancer and its cardiotoxicity consequences. Such studies will provide key models for translational medicine research and the evaluation of novel molecular based mechanisms to the understanding of possible clinical toxicities.
